Foley's

Foley's was the top department store in Houston, TX. It was a sister chain to Strawbridge's and Kaufmann's in its later years under May Department Stores ownership. All May's stores nationwide were converted to Macy's in 2006. Prior to 2006, Macy's had only a small presence in Houston, especially compared to Philadelphia, and had closed its few area stores in 1997.

The Macy's shown here was Foley's flagship store in downtown Houston, built in 1947. Foley's continued to expand until the early 1990s.

Mr. Good Buys

Mr. Good Buys was a home center chain in the New York and Philadelphia areas founded in 1984, the same year as rivals The Home Depot, Builders Square, and Home Quarters (HQ). Information on these stores is VERY scarce, but I do know they "said goodbye" in 1991. Their only store I know of is in Springfield, PA. The gigantic store is now subdivided into BJ's and Forman Mills. Forman Mills is now closing this store after they lost their lease.
